Building Healthy Relationships with Children Who Have Experienced Trauma: A Workshop for Parents, Caregivers, and Professionals

March 6 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Objectives

  1. Understand what Complex Traumatic Stress is, and how it can affect the typical development of children
  2. Gain awareness of the types of behaviors (symptoms) commonly seen in children who have had traumatic experiences and learn to better manage
  3. Understand the need to address psychological as well as physical safety in children with trauma
  4. Learn why caregiver wellness is key
  5. Advocate for and be able to adequately identify providers

Training provided by certified trainers:

  • Katy Pruitt—Trauma Informed Care Coordinator
  • Nancy Carey— Social worker; Joanne Peterson—parent/advocate

When: Thursday mornings, 9:00 a.m.—noon, March 6th—May 1st, 2025
(we will have March 27th off for Spring Break)

Where: Sheboygan County Health & Human Services, 1011 N. 8th Street, Room 372, Sheboygan, WI

  • A commitment to all eight sessions is needed.
  • Professionals/family teams are encouraged to attend together. Professionals are asked to pay a nominal fee of $15.00 for materials. Scholarships are available in case of hardship.
  • Parents/caregivers may also bring a support person.
  • You do not have to be currently receiving services at HHS to take this class. It is open to the public.

No childcare is available during these sessions. Please plan to attend all sessions unless you are ill. Please note that is can be a hard class if you have a trauma history, but may also help in your healing.
