Bullying Prevention and Awareness

Participants will learn key information about bullying, including types of bullying, risk factors, and statistics related to bullying in Wisconsin for all students and for students with disabilities. In addition, participants will explore how both schools and families can prevent and respond to bullying to help create a safe school community. Participants will also learn about DPI’s new Bullying Prevention Toolkit, which contains tools and procedures for bullying prevention and response.

PRESENTERS: Libby Strunz is a School Mental Health Consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English Education from UW–La Crosse in 2010 and a master’s degree in School Counseling from Winona State University in 2016. Libby began her career in public education as a high school English teacher and later transitioned to being a middle school counselor. As a member of DPI’s Student Services/Prevention and Wellness Team, she provides training and technical assistance in comprehensive school mental health systems, bullying prevention, and trauma-sensitive schools.

Eva Shaw is a special education consultant at the Wisconsin DPI. Her role focuses on services and supports related to social and emotional learning for students with IEPs, autism, emotional behavioral disabilities, positive behavioral interventions and supports, and alternatives to exclusionary practices. She has worked in the field of special education for over 25 years and has had the privilege to serve children, families, and schools in several states and in a wide variety of roles.
