Journeys Conference w/ Jaclyn Skalnik & Shanna Sullivan: Pewaukee
April 20 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
$20Adoptive parents, guardianship parents, foster parents, pre-adoptive parents, and professionals — please join the Journeys Program and Jockey Being Family for a very special in-person conference with the trauma-informed clinician, Jaclyn Skalnik, LCSW, and registered play therapist, Shanna Sullivan, LCSW.
Coffee and lunch will be provided, and all attendees will have a chance to enter drawings for great giveaways throughout the conference! Certificates of attendance (5 hours) will be available for those who need them.

Session descriptions
Session one: GPS – Mapping out the Journey.
This session will provide a basic historical context of adoption through the lens of attachment, grief, and post-adoption topics.
Session two: Detours & Destinations
This experiential workshop will include small group work and will be infused with adoption-informed therapeutic approaches, reflective exercises, and tangible takeaways. We will explore challenges and discoveries along the route.
Closing session:
As “travel agents”, we want our families to depart from the conference with well-packed suitcases for the rest of their journeys. Leaving feeling inspired and empowered to be the best tour guides for their little travelers.
About our presenters
Jaclyn Skalnik is a trauma-informed clinician whose areas of specialty include transracial adoption, attachment, grief & loss, identity exploration, racial equity, and social justice. As an international and transracially adopted person, she weaves her personal experiences into her professional training to offer perspective and insight. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Wisconsin, a public speaker, a national trainer for adoption competency, an adoptive parent coach, an adoption consultant, an adoptive family homeland journey social worker, and has facilitated international birth-family searches and reunions. Her goals are to create a space that embodies compassion, to foster a therapeutic relationship that enables vulnerability, and to support the exploration of your whole self. She is an ally, an empath, and an attuned listener.
Shanna Sullivan is a trauma-informed clinician, a Register Play Therapist, and a supervisor for the Children’s Wisconsin school-based mental health program. She is a member of the Black Professional and Allies Inclusion Resource Group. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Wisconsin, an adoptive parent, and a mental health therapist.
