SUMMARY:Professional Development Series - The Power of Partnership: Prioritizing Lived Experience in Child Welfare
DESCRIPTION:Peer parent programs provide child welfare-involved families with a unique opportunity to connect with parents who have successfully navigated the child welfare system and share similar experiences. Through peer support\, families gain access to practical guidance\, community connections\, and firsthand insight from someone who understands the challenges of navigating the system. In this webinar\, participants will explore the value of lived experience in supporting families\, learn how lived experience voice can positively impact service delivery and systems change\, and discover practical strategies for incorporating lived experience into their own work. Join us to learn how this is being implemented by Parents Supporting Parents in Wisconsin. \nAndrea Szwec began her child welfare career in 2002 as a CPS Initial Assessment Worker in Jefferson County\, spending 14 years investigating abuse and neglect before moving into ongoing case management. In 2020\, she became the Parents Supporting Parents Supervisor\, leading a program that elevates parent voice to drive change within the child welfare system. She also supervises Family Teaming and co-chairs the Jefferson County Citizen Review Panel. \nRegistration is limited to 500 participants. Wisconsin Professionals with an existing PDS account will receive 1.5 training credits and a certificate of attendance for participating in this webinar. SUMMARY:Love Through Hair Care: Textured Haircare Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Registration for this event is required on Eventbrite. (on sale July 30 @6pm) \n\n\n\n\nAdoptive\, foster\, guardianship\, relative caregiver\, and reunified families — join us for a special class focusing on learning more about your child’s textured hair. This class is meant to show caregivers how to work with textured hair\, specifically those with 3C to 4B texture. \nThis in-person instruction at Devine Beauty Salon in Sun Prairie will be hosted by Olena\, owner of Devine Beauty\, who is passionate about blending artistry and education into creating beautiful\, elevated looks while celebrating individuality\, culture\, and confidence. It is a family hair affair (combo course) which will cover textured hair types\, general textured hair care knowledge\, use of products\, as well as hands-on instruction for simple hairstyles. There will also be time for a Q&A! \nA hair care grab bag will be included with your registration. \nEach ticket is good for 1 adult and 1 child. This event is restricted to one child per family. \nYour child must be able to sit for 2 hours consecutively. SUMMARY:Future Ready  - A Workshop for Teens & Their Families
DESCRIPTION:Future Ready is an engaging and structured program to equip teens and young adults with disabilities\, ages 14 to 21\, and their families with the tools and a plan for the transition to adult life. \nTeens will build confidence\, self-advocacy skills\, and create a clear vision for their future. As parents\, you will gain practical guidance on adult systems\, decision-making options\, and learn how you can support their increasing independence. Through expert-led sessions\, peer learning\, and planning activities\, participants explore healthcare\, education\, employment\, adult long-term care\, community life\, financial tools and skills needed for the real world. \nThis program is best suited for teens\, between the ages of 14 and 19\, who have a disability or special health care need\, and are at a level of need to qualify for long-term support services. We encourage teens to attend with one or more parents and/or primary caregivers. \nYou will leave with a shared understanding of what transition means\, concrete next steps\, and tools to move forward with your teen in greater confidence based on teamwork. \nTo ensure a quality experience this group will be held to a limited number of families. Early registration is recommended. \nREGISTER
