SUMMARY:Virtual Group: Connected Parenting
DESCRIPTION:For WI caregivers who are parenting youth with a high level of need due to complex trauma histories related to adoption or out-of-home care. \n\n\n\n\nAdoptive\, Kinship\, Reunified\, Foster\, & Guardianship parents and caregivers: Please join us for a connected parenting virtual support group just for you! This group is especially for parents/caregivers who are looking for: \n–A place to be seen\, heard\, and supported from other attendees who understand similar parenting challenges; \n–More brain based\, connection-focused parenting support; and \n-Helpful ideas and resources from the group’s facilitators. \nThe group meets on the 3rd Monday of each month from noon (12:00 pm) – 1:00 pm. There will be monthly focus areas for discussion and/or guest speakers to support ongoing learning\, but always with plenty of time for connection and support. Please register early as group size is limited. \nThis group is facilitated by WIFCC Case Manager Allison Kunkel MS\, APSW and Support Specialist Val Zegers. With questions\, please email wifcc@cclse.org. \nPlease note: This group is specifically designed to provide support for the caregivers who are struggling to find parenting techniques to support a child in their home who may have a trauma history alongside emotional/behavioral challenges or diagnoses. DESCRIPTION:The impact of early childhood trauma on a child’s developing brain is profound\, especially the prefrontal cortex\, which includes neural pathways responsible for thinking\, behavioral\, and emotional regulation. When children experience trauma\, their brains frequently remain in a state of heightened alert\, prioritizing survival over the complex processing required for learning\, socializing\, and daily tasks. \nThis webinar will: \n\nExplore the intersection of trauma and executive functioning\, providing a look at how trauma alters brain architecture\nIdentify what is underneath trauma-informed behaviors that are often mislabeled as defiance\, laziness\, or lack of\nmotivation\nShare practical support strategies\n\nBy shifting our lens from “what is wrong with this child” to “what has happened to and is right with this child\,” we can move toward more compassionate\, effective\, and sustainable strategies that help children feel supported\, capable\, and empowered. \nAbout the Presenter: \nDr. Angela Marx is a licensed clinical psychologist with 20 years of experience supporting children\, families\, and neurodivergent individuals through direct support\, case management\, behavioral support\, and crisis response. She is the founder of Place of Mind LLC\, specializing in psychological assessment and mental health support for neurodivergent individuals. \nLicensed foster parents will receive 1.5 training credits for participation in this webinar. SUMMARY:FASD & the Big 3: Raging\, Lying & Stealing
DESCRIPTION:Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) are more common than autism\, yet they remain widely misunderstood and often misdiagnosed. Challenging behaviors such as raging\, lying and stealing are frequently viewed as intentional misconduct when they actually reflect underlying brain-based differences in memory\, impulse control\, emotional regulation\, and executive functioning. In this session\, participants will explore how prenatal alcohol and other prenatal exposures can impact brain development and contribute to these behaviors. Through a trauma-informed\, neurobehavioral lens\, caregivers\, educators\, and professionals will gain practical strategies to move beyond punishment and blame\, better understand the “why” behind the behavior\, and respond  in ways that promote success\, connection\, and long-term growth. \nRegister
