Transracial Parenting Learning Series
Transracial parenting comes with unique responsibilities and opportunities. Raising a child of a different race means learning how race and culture shape identity, relationships, and a child’s sense of belonging. Families who adopt transracially often seek guidance on how to support their child’s healthy development and positive self-identity.
At the Wisconsin Family Connections Center, we provide free transracial family resources to help parents and caregivers learn, grown, and connect with their children in meaningful ways. These resources are designed to increase awareness, build skills, and encourage conversations about race, identity, and culture.
Our free transracial parenting learning series is intended to bring a greater awareness of the importance of racial and ethnic identity to a child’s healthy development. We hope that, through this series, parents will come to have a deeper appreciation of the crucial role we play in raising a child of a different race to feel connected and develop a positive self-identity. Only by educating ourselves and challenging our own beliefs and biases can we help our children navigate the challenges they will face. We are pleased to be able to offer the webinars in this series at no cost.
We hope that these webinars will help you, as parents and caregivers:
- Appreciate the role of racial and cultural identity in a child’s life
- Recognize and challenge personal beliefs and biases
- Build skills to help children navigate challenges related to race and identity
- Foster a sense of connection and resilience in children
This transracial parenting learning path is only the beginning of the ongoing work we are committed to continuing. We plan on building on these foundational webinars in the future with additional learning opportunities as well as ways to connect with other parents in similar situations to broaden the transracial family resources available to learn more about transracial parenting. Please know that we are here to take this journey with you. Let’s learn together, grow together, and champion strong, resilient children and youth together.
