In Their Own Words reflections on Parenting Children with Mental Health Issues
We have little tolerance for what we do not understand and we have little patience when there is no quick fix. The families who shared their stories with us represent thousands of parents challenged by the emotional issues of their children. These children look just like their peers, but behave in ways that are disturbing. Their parents often hear comments and advice like the following: Your child just needs a little more discipline. You are too controlling. Your expectations are too high. Your expectations are too low. Why don’t you just give him back? Your child just needs a little more love. You need to take a parenting course. In Their Own Words offers support and resources to parents and professionals living and working with children challenged with mental health issues.
