Supporting Transgender Youth
Regarding support, let’s take a closer look at gender identity. Transgender is a term used to describe people whose gender self-image is different from the sex assigned to them at birth based on their physiological anatomy. A transgender woman is a person who identifies as a female but was assigned “male” at birth. Conversely, a transgender man is a person who identifies as a male but was assigned “female” at birth. Keep in mind the following tips when caring for a youth who identifies as transgender.
